On May 28th, one day before the National Day of the Honeybee, we will be partnering with the Hillhurst-Sunnyside Farmers Market to host their special Day of the Honeybee market. This is the first outdoor market of the season and a celebration of our favorite insect and we are going all out!

Throughout the day there is going to be live music performed by local musicians, a photo booth and some of the best vendors the city has to offer. Bee-themed crafts and workshops will show you how to create a pollinator-friendly environment in your own backyard or balcony with solitary bee boxes and pollen rich flowers. Kids will have a blast dressing up in bee costumes, making colourful bee crafts and participating in pollinator games!

We all know how important bees are to our food system…and nobody knows better than a chef! UNA Pizza and Wine will be providing a delicious honey-themed treat to open the market and whet your appetite. In an ode to honeybees, the talented Chefs Kyle Groves of Catch Restaurant and Oyster Bar and Craig Nazareth of the Fairmont Palliser Hotel will be demonstrating recipes to inspire your palate and your market shopping!

This is one of our favorite events because it exemplifies the Bees4Communities project; a focused collaboration in support of honeybee health that engages the communities where we live and work. You’ll find information about all our fabulous partners at the market and online.

I am thrilled that a project I began 5 years ago has taken root in your community. I love what you are doing with “Day of the Honey Bee” that I created. The events and activities sound exciting.

I wish you the best success.

And thanks for informing your county about the importance of honey bees.

    Cheers.
