2021 BEEKEEPER’S GIFT GUIDE

The holiday season is right around the corner! Whether you have a beekeeper or a bee enthusiast in your life, this gift guide is sure to have something for everyone.

FOR THE BEE ENTHUSIAST

Our Little Books on Bees are the perfect set of books for the bee enthusiasts in your life looking to learn more about native pollinators and conservation. Each of these books is a beautifully illustrated resource, and self-published by ABC Bees. We carefully crafted each book with the demands of the Southern Alberta climate in mind, however, the basic principles can be applied throughout North America.  These books can be read in any order, and each one highlights the simple actions you can take to support native pollinators in our communities.

FOR THE BEEKEEPER WHO ALWAYS HAS THEIR HANDS FULL

Do you know a beekeeper who is always struggling to keep track of all their tools in the apiary? They’re constantly losing pens, hive tools, and their phone always finds its way out of their beekeeping suits or pockets when bending over and picking up bee equipment. Luckily, all pockets sit low on our ABC Bees aprons, so tools and your pens don’t jab you in the belly or fall out when sitting or bending over! Pockets with snaps allow for easy placement of queen cages, notebooks, sample containers and your cell phone.

FOR THE INFORMED BEEKEEPER

Do you know a beekeeper that likes to stay informed? They are the type of person to have a section in their personal library dedicated to beekeeping. Beekeeping in Western Canada is an excellent resource book for anybody keeping bees in the prairies. This book includes information about getting started in beekeeping, spring management of bees, winter feeding, honey extraction, honey bee health, and marketing your beeswax, pollen and honey crops. This book bundle also comes with a free copy of Honey Bees Diseases and Pests.

FOR THOSE WHO INSPIRE

Do you know someone that could inspire future beekeepers? Bee Inspired: Teaching Resource is a compendium of bee knowledge focused on supporting teachers, looking for unique ways in which to support children’s learning.

Educating teachers about the complexities of bees and their habitats, the book also supports going deeper in to the content, through our “Opportunities for Inquiry” chapter pull-outs. Encouraging out-of-the-box thinking about bees and how the structures and systems they display are reflected in other systems in our world. A beautiful, eye-opening and engaging book, this is a resource that no teacher can go without.

FOR THE “HAVE YOU SEEN MY HIVE TOOL?” BEEKEEPER

This one is pretty self-explanatory! If you know a beekeeper who is always misplacing their hive tool, they’ll thank you for having an extra at the ready!

The J-Hook Tool is great for lifting frames that are encased in propolis. The beauty of the J-Hook is the J-shaped hook and notch on the end of the tool. It acts as a lever to lift the frames up without damaging them and makes hive inspections easier. Plus, they make great stocking stuffers!
