Hi, Its Eliese from ABC Bees, here with part 2 of Orientation to Hobby Beekeeping. In part 1, we looked at the beekeeping equipment needed to manage a single colony, the types of tools used in beekeeping and their use, as well as their associated costs. If you haven’t already looked at part one, you’ll want to go back and do that.Â
I am hope that you are coming into this session with a clear understanding of the tools and equipment that you will need to keep bees safely.
Today, we are going to cover what to expect when you are looking for bees. How bees can be expected to be sold from producers.
We will look at the pros and cons of purchasing packages, nucleus colonies, and single or double colonies. We will go over what to expect when you receive your bees as well as show you how they are installed. We will also give you some recommendations of what to purchase and questions you should be asking a retailer. From there, you should have a good idea of what you should start with.
Completing the second session Tool Kit will leave you with a clear outline and plan of what suits you best for purchasing bees.
