So, you want bees in 2014, either as a beginner or to expand or replace your bees. That’s awesome! Our priority is to:

–          Get the best Canadian bees to hobby or small-scale beekeepers

–          Make sure that those committed to offering the highest care to the bees receive them

–          The flow of education, mentorship, and community are supported by our participants

We have developed a system to ensure that these priorities occur in our Collaborative Purchase of honeybees annually. We are bringing in up to 150 colonies in 2014 and we are eager and excited to engage YOU and help you meet your beekeeping goals.

How it works?

STEP 1: Go to the http://www.thecommunityhive.org website.

STEP 2: Click on the tab at the top of the page titled GET BEES. Fill out the application AFTER YOU TAKE THE EXAM IN FEBRUARY on the page with your personal information. This is an application for honeybees necessary to identify that the potential recipient of the honeybees is educated and aware of the responsibility of keeping the bees. *You will be asked if you have taken an A.B.C Level One Beekeeping Course, if you have not taken the course, you are required to take the Beekeeping Exam offered of the website. You must receive over 80% on the exam for your application to be accepted.

STEP 3: Take the online examination if you would like your application to be considered for assessment. This will not be available until February 1, 2014

STEP 5: Become a member of the Community Hive Chat Room by clicking on the tab at the top of the page titled CHAT ROOM. This is a direct link to other Community Hive members so that you can receive the support and answers to your questions in real time by real and local beekeepers.

Changes to the Program?

We are no longer running the Collaborative Purchase of equipment, but we are running an Equipment Ordering Meeting in January.

To participate in the beekeeping application process, it is now FREE! If you are to receive bees, a $20 additional fee will be added to your hive invoice. This covers the expense of the Community Hive Chat room monthly fee for maintaining and Pick-up and Delivery Fees of the Honeybees.
